Hereford United FC saw a petition to wind them up adjourned on the 8 September 2014 at the High Court in London. But are still facing a petition from HMRC.

It was reported that Herefordshire Council have now joined HMRC in the pursuit to wind up the club. The council said it had not previously pursued a payment of about £65,000 in debts.

The local authority, which owns HUFC’s stadium, is owed the money for rent, rates and legal fees.

Council leader Tony Johnson had this to say:

“It’s always been the council’s intention to pursue the money that’s owed to us. One of the things that’s bothered us greatly is we do want to see the continuation of football at Edgar Street and we didn’t want to do anything to jeopardise that. It’s part of the fabric of the city.”

However, Mr Johnson said some taxpayers had interpreted the council’s position as a lack of action. The authority said it had decided to join HM Revenue & Customs on the winding-up petition when it returns to the High Court next month.

Hereford United’s Seventh Winding-up Adjournment

It was reported that the club reached a settlement with its main claimant, former manager Martin Foyle. However, HMRC are still owed £116,000 by the club.

HMRC are now pursuing the petition alone. They had originally brought the petition alongside Hereford’s former manager Martin Foyle and his assistant Andy Porter.

This is the club’s seventh adjournment over one petition. They will return to the High Court on 20 October 2014 and are still facing the prospect of liquidation.
