The famous Cafe Shore Bar & Restaurant in Poole, Dorset, which offers diners impressive views across the harbour, has been presented with a winding up petition by HM Revenue and Customs.
The petition, which was presented on 7 December 2012 and advertised in the London Gazette on 16 January 2013, was due to be heard in the Companies Court in London this week but was adjourned until April after Cafe Shore said there is a dispute over the debt.
Ben Brafman at Cafe Shore said that the business was not under threat of closure, stating that: “Cafe Shore is trading and it’s not going to cease trading”.
Lisa Billard, of HMRC defended its action of pursuing the business by way of this high risk strategy and said that: “HMRC’s aim is not to wind up companies or make individuals bankrupt, but to collect, as efficiently as we can, the debts that are due”.
