Truro City FC appoint LEXLAW

London law firm, LEXLAW Solicitors & Barristers, has been instructed by Truro City Football Club Limited (TCFC) to represent them in relation to a winding up petition served on the club by HMRC.

TCFC Press Release:

“Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have taken an unduly aggressive approach to this tax liability by issuing a winding up petition. The background to this matter is that TCFC were chasing HMRC and only recently were advised of the amount of debt due. This was as a result of HMRC failing to demand this debt over the last two years. TCFC has previously been in dispute with HMRC over wrongly assessed VAT and this was settled in TCFC’s favour. The recent demand has resulted in an immediate tax bill which HMRC have refused to accept a payment arrangement in respect of. Various workable solutions were in fact offered to HMRC to repay the debt but these were refused by HMRC. TCFC are dismayed by the actions of HMRC in bringing and advertising the petition without allowing the matter to be settled privately and understand the issuing of petitions against football clubs is a matter of HMRC policy which has been effected against a number of football clubs in recent times. TCFC have now instructed specialist London lawyers, LEXLAW, in order to have this matter dealt with and concluded as swiftly as possible.”
