Winding Up Threatened Bolton Wanderers FC will pay Players for December

Bolton’s players are to be paid for the month of December, the Sky Bet Championship club have confirmed. The squad have not received their wages since October and manager Neil Lennon feared another missed pay packet would allow his players to walk out on their contracts. It emerged earlier this month that the club owe £600,000 in unpaid taxes after HMRC issued a winding up petition.

Players Paid but Sales Likely

It is understood The Trotters have raised funds to pay squad members through contributions from the PFA and the sale of assets connected to the club’s ground. Despite this, fans are braced for numerous transfers out of the club when the window re-opens in January. Bolton have hired the former Stoke City and Leicester United director Terry Robinson to review their football operations before any departures.

Newly appointed financial advisor to the club Trevor Birch, who is working on behalf of the owner, Eddie Davies, to negotiate a takeover reportedly has this to say:

“We’re continuing to work through what is an extremely challenging time for the football club. The recent sale of some property assets has assisted, together with the support of the PFA, but we need to raise further substantial funds and player sales cannot be ruled out.”

“We are still working to the deadline of the winding-up hearing on January 18 and unless we are successful in our efforts the club faces a very uncertain future.”
